Article Manuscript Submission Guidelines

  • Authors are expected to have conceptualized, researched, written, and formatted the articles they submit for consideration. Articles crafted with the assistance of generative AI (in any capacity and at any scale) are ineligible for consideration and / or publication.
  • Submit articles as Microsoft Word files (.docx); eliminate any personal identifying information for the purpose of review
  • Manuscripts should be between 6,000 and 11,000 words, inclusive of notes
  • Provide an article abstract (maximum of 200 words) and a list of 5-6 keywords; these should appear (in that order and labeled as such) immediately following the article title in the MS Word file
  • Manuscripts should be double-spaced with 1-inch margins and 12-pt. Times New Roman font, and must conform to the Chicago Manual of Style (17th edition). Adhere to the Notes-Bibliography System (consisting of shortened citational footnotes plus a bibliography that includes full citations of each source in alphabetical order) with the following exceptions: (1) use parenthetical references in the main text (as opposed to ibid. and / or a footnote) when a work is cited frequently; (2) use the abbreviation l. (or ll.) when quoting poetry by line number(s) and p. (or pp.) when quoting any text by page number(s).
  • Americanize all spelling and style throughout except in quotations or titles.
  • Authors are welcome to include high-resolution images (JPEG or TIFF) with the understanding that it is the author’s responsibility to obtain any necessary permissions and / or settle associated fees. Figures should appear on separate pages at the end of the manuscript with numbers and captions. Indicate placement in the main text as follows: <fig. 1 here>.
  • All article manuscripts must be sent through the Scholastica manuscript submission portal
